Challenge
Sewon Chemical Co. has been helping customers for over 50 years and exports to well over 20 countries globally. Recently they were called upon by one of the leading bathroom components manufacturers in the world, and the largest in Japan.
The customer needed a SMC (Sheet Molding Compound) supplier that was competitively priced and able to carry out high quality testing for their products.
The SMC would be used to manufacture premium bathtubs and required tests of 1) 90°C water maintained for 500 hours to check for any material degradation within the bathtub, and 2) to verify the chemical resistance of the SMC using cleaning products only available in the Japanese market.
Solution
A competitive quotation was offered to the customer, as well as the ability to carry out the high quality standard tests required, which are not normally performed in Korea.
Both tests were comprehensively passed, with no swelling or discolouration to the surface of the bathtub, and chemical resistance was verified.
16 metric tonnes of SMC were then supplied to the manufacturer, enabling them to establish a second supplier outside of their domestic market that offered the quality and service required, with a competitive price that enabled profitability.
Results
Sewon has become a trusted second supplier to this customer, and to other companies in the Japanese market, which have previously relied solely on domestic supply chains. Offering a perfect opportunity to secure more diversified supply sources.
