Camida and The South Tipperary Autism Parents Support Group recently enjoyed a memorable Family Fishing Day at Ardaire Springs Angling Centre. The event was a joyful experience for the families, providing a wonderful opportunity for relaxation and bonding.

Founded in 2001, the South Tipperary Autism Parents Support Group is a volunteer-led organisation formed in response to the growing number of children diagnosed with autism spectrum disorder (ASD). Our group is driven by the dedication of parents who have always been our greatest asset.

The group hosts confidential monthly meetings, offering parents and carers a platform to share knowledge and experiences about ASD. New members are always welcome and encouraged to join.

“Our focus is on our kids and families because they are amazing. We organize a variety of social activities throughout the year, including weekly swimming sessions, day trips, festive parties, and a packed summer program in August. All activities are designed to be fully inclusive, providing a vital support network for families,” said Catherine Kennedy, Chairperson of South Tipperary Autism Parent Support Group.

In addition to social activities, we offer regular workshops to help parents deepen their understanding and support their children with ASD. This year, we have hosted workshops on Lámh, Occupational Therapy, Music Therapy, and Regulation. A special Regulation Workshop with Dr. Aine O’Dea is scheduled for Saturday, October 19, 2024.

“Supporting our community is at the heart of everything that we do at Camida. We love sharing our success with the community and we prioritise community support, especially when it’s for those in need,” explained David Anchell, Managing Director of Camida.

“Events like these are incredibly valuable for our children and families. They provide a safe, supportive environment where everyone can relax, have fun, and connect with each other. A very special thanks to Mary and George McGrath who planned this wonderful event. We look forward to making this an annual tradition and are deeply grateful to everyone who helped make our first fishing trip an unforgettable experience,” added Catherine Kennedy, Chairperson South Tipperary Autism Parents Support Group.
